Soma
Dave and Lauren Black - A college town ministry.
- Story: "Tonight was great guys, I was crying (which apparently is no longer rare) when we were standing in a circle and singing, i felt God, i felt loved, and i felt whole. Thanks for leading us in that. Of course you know the be still message is something I need to be reminded of daily but the way you put it that maybe there is something we cannot learn from god until we slow down, that was brand new. anyways thank you both for planting this church but mostly for listening to God. I am constantly encouraged by your obedience."- "Lori" is a Soma core group member who recently moved to Springfield.

- Current Status:
Currently meeting during the mid week as a core group, house churches on Sunday mornings, and Preview Gatherings monthly.
We are planting with Ted and Andrea Rastatter (ted@discoversoma.org), And Matthew Ison (info@discoversoma.org)
About a year ago a buddy and I began to pray and kick around the idea of what a new church expression would look like within this city. We firmly believe that God has called us to this mission. We began to ask some key questions, pray for some firm guidance, and seek God’s glory here.
One question that began to surface was this: What would it look like if instead of inviting people to church, we began to invite them to be the church? What if all the descriptive terms we used to describe a church, such as it’s buildings, it’s programs, and it’s atmosphere were missing the mark? What would it look like to describe a church by it’s people?
One way that God describes his people is as the body of Jesus Christ (the word “soma” means “body” in Greek). This body is to be Jesus to their neighbors, families, friends, and even enemies. This body is called to become more like Jesus daily.
For this reason you won't see any new church building, you won't hear of any new ultra hip programs, and you probably won't find us in the yellowpages. Instead it is our hope that what you see is new people. After all, the Church is People.
